Apron-icity - National Tie One On Day -
November 26

UPDATE:

We received some Thank You notes from women who received our aprons through Haven House.  Here's what they had to say (I'm using initials instead of full names for the privacy and safety of the note writer):

"Thank you so very much for the beautiful aprons and the surprises inside!  Again thank you.  I really appreciate it!" - BM

"Thank you for the gifts.  They were really nice.  It is really appreciated." - JA

"Thank you.  It  brought a much needed smile to my face.  I will enjoy the bread and candy very much.  I try to study my Bible every day.  Thanks." - J

"Thank you so much for the gift and sharing a smile through this Holiday Season.  I wish you all have a Happy and Joyous Holiday. - JLA

"Thank you very much.  It is such a nice thing to do.  May God always Bless you."  R

"I want to Thank you for your generosity and thinking about us at Haven House.  Thank you for my apron.  I do appreciate you designing and baking the fresh bread.  Thanks for the wonderful warmth gifts and blessing us at this time and thinking about us and caring to.  Bless you." - C

"Thank you for the thoughtful and heartfelt gift of banana nut bread and the homemade apron.  Happy Holiday and God Bless You."  LMD and kids

Here's all of the amazing aprons/breads we received:

Thanks to all who helped with our Apron-icity project.  Our goal was 8 aprons and 8 loaves of bread.  We more than quadrupled that amount - a total of 33 aprons and probably 45 loaves of bread.  Here's where they went:

3 to the family of Dianna Boles a most excellent quilting buddy.  I'm sorry to say that Dianna passed away before she got her apron.  She leaves behind two daughters - Shannon and Lauren.  Dianna we will miss you.

2 to quilting buddies who lost spouses during the last year.

1 to a personal friend of mine at work who lost her husband in October.

2 to quilting buddies who were having a difficult time - one who was in the hospital.

25 to Haven House - a Maryville Shelter for abused women

We would like to say a special thanks to the American Sewing Guild (http://www.asg.org/) for joining in this project.  We will make this an annual project so we will accept aprons any time you want to make and donate them.

What is National Tie One On Day (Apron-icity)?

Join hands and hearts with others to put the “give in thanksgiving” for someone in need of a kind word…and the special gift of an apron.

National Tie One on Day™ is the brainchild of EllynAnne Geisel, author of The Apron Book, and is now in its third year. In keeping with Geisel’s vision, on the day before Thanksgiving, women across the country will be celebrating the day by wrapping a loaf of bread in an apron and tucking a prayer or a note of encouragement in the pocket—and then delivering the bundle to someone in need of physical or spiritual sustenance—or both.

Haven House is a shelter in Maryville, Tennessee whose mission is to provide emergency shelter and support services related to the needs of domestic violence victims.  Visit the Safe Haven website at:  http://www.havenhousetn.org/

We will be participating in this project again next year!
